How Lindsay Arnold's Lifestyle Line Was Inspired by 'Dancing with the Stars'

Updated: Apr 22, 2020

Lindsay Arnold has been on the move since she first burst on the dance scene in 2012 as a contestant on So You Think You Can Dance. By 2013, she was on Dancing with the Stars and she hasn't looked back, but she is looking to the future by building her lifestyle empire. Her sixth product, Charming Hair Clips and Barrette Trio from her L.A.C by Lindsay Arnold line, launched this week.

"I feel like I got into this mode of dance, dance, dance, which is amazing and it's given me so many opportunities. Yet there are so many other things I'm passionate about that I love and want to create," Lindsay told Dance Dish at the launch party earlier this week. "I think as a dancer, I'm always going to be an artist and a creator, whether that's in dance or in an entrepreneurial way."

Many of the ideas from her product line have been inspired by her time on DWTS

"The first product that I did was a jewelry line —I did two necklaces and two sets of earrings. This all stemmed from the fact that every season on Dancing with the Stars, my mom, my mother-in-law, or my husband would give me a dainty necklace to wear for the whole season as a good-luck charm. Every season was a new one and it had to be dainty because if it was big, it would get caught in the costumes," she explained. "So that became like a staple for me. I started thinking that there are other dancers and active people out there who want to feel feminine and have something that makes them feel like they stand out, but also be able to go to the gym and go to dance class and perform."

Her products have not only become favorites of the fans of the show, but also for the celebrities competing on DWTS. Her Lip Kit - Honey Love was a favorite of one Season 28 contestant.

"Ally Brooke wore my new lip kit pretty much every single week on the show," Lindsay revealed. "I love that every time she was wearing nude, she was wearing my Honey Love. It made me so happy, she's the sweetest. I love her."

Lindsay has also stayed in touch with her Season 28 partner, Sean Spicer, who was of great comfort to her when she unexpectedly lost her mother-in-law in the middle of the season.

"He's been so, so, so kind, especially with all that happened with my mother-in-law," she shared. "He lost his dad not too long ago, so he was trying to help me through it and encourage me. He's been so sweet."

She also explained how the duo rose above all of the noise that started at the beginning of the season when his casting was announced. Lindsay knew exactly what she had to do and focus on.

"It's a dance show and I love to teach people how to dance. I love to take people who think they can't do something and help them do it. No matter who my partner is, that's what I'm going to do every season," she said. "And Sean was so kind, so respectful to me and such a hard worker. I surely could not have asked for more in a partner."

Her focus now is getting ready for the Dancing with the Stars: Live! – 2020 Tour, which is hitting 70 cities across North America this winter and spring. The tour is also being run by a new team, director Mark “Swany” Swanhart and co-director Amanda Balen. While the cast is excited by new ideas, they do miss Mandy Moore, who is now choreographing on NBC's upcoming show, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist.

"It is interesting working with new choreographers and it's always going to bring in a new light and dark shade. It's been fun to work with new people. That's not to say that we were sick of Mandy Moore. No freaking way! We love Mandy Moore. No one could ever do what she does," said Lindsay. "It's been very fun because I feel like we've all tried to keep the Mandy spirit and make decisions as she would. So that's what we're all doing collectively as a group, trying to think like her and try to keep that around even when she's not here."

The best part of preparing for the tour has been working with her fellow pros in a relaxed environment. It's something they look forward to at the end of every season.

"I love tour rehearsals because it's a very non-stressful part of Dancing with the Stars. There is a time crunch, but it's all of the professionals working together, doing what we love to do and doing it to the best of our abilities," she summed up. "When it's all of the pros together, it's pretty insane."
